Matt Castillo grew up in Levittown Long Island New York in Nassau County. Growing up Matt has always had a love for sports, most kids are home watching Cartoon’s or playing video games, but Matt had his eyes glued on ESPN. He always knew that one day he wanted to work as a commentator like his favorite announcers such as Michael Kay, Mike Breen, Joe Buck, Bob Costas, Vin Scully, and Al Michaels.

Matt played Baseball, Football, and Basketball. His best sport was Basketball by the sixth grade Matt was playing travel basketball for one of the top teams on Long Island. As he entered middle school he earned the starting shooting guard spot on his team.

At the end of the 7th-grade season, Matt and his family moved to Lyman South Carolina in Spartanburg County. Matt continued to play basketball for his school team as a starting point guard when he hit a growth spurt he was moved to the power forward position. By his junior year, due to issues within the program, Matt decided to move on from playing basketball and began focusing on a journalist career. He joined the school newspaper staff covering sports.

After graduating High School in 2012, Matt got his Associate Arts degree at Spartanburg Methodist College in 2014. During his time there, he was on their school newspaper staff covering the sports on campus. Matt moved on to the University of South Carolina Upstate he received his Bachelor Degree in Communication in December of 2016.

During his time at Upstate Matt Joined an online publication Skyscraper Sports, where he was on their staff for two years. Matt started off writing about the Brooklyn Nets, and the Buffalo Bills. He also wrote the Who’s Hot Who’s Not articles for the Yankees and Mets. Over time his role changed with the site as he covered the New York Jets.

In the summer of 2016, Matt joined Greer Today as a video reporter for the site. Typically Matt covered High School Sports, but he did have the opportunity to cover the Carolina Panthers Training Camp. Matt had the privilege of interviewing the Panthers President Danny Morrison.

After Graduation Matt will look to continue his Journalist Career as one day he hopes to work for YES Network, which his dream job is being a commentator for the New York Yankees.
